John my advice would be simply be the best that you possibly can. Study hard, practice every detail no matter how mundane over and over be the very best student in the school. Live, eat sleep and breath it, even if you end up not liking and being a commercial diver for long, you will have learned many valuable skills that can get you great jobs like teaching scuba in some exotic place in the world.
