My name is Nick. I have been diving for many years and have dove some great places in cold water and tropical.
I have taught diving and worked commercially. I have a question for anyone who has knowledge in cameras. I
would like to buy (used if need be) a video camera/stills for eventually working at some resort in that field.
What is a good camera/video set-up to buy for the not to professional?
Thanks for any information and happy diving to all.

Hello Nick and welcome aboard...
Great questions about UW Photography & UW Video...
I would recommend placing individual questions in both the UW Photoghy forum section and the UW Videography forum. I would suspect you will get more responses.
But I will comment on what I know about the subjects.
For Cameras I have used Sealife's DC600 & DC1200. The DC600 is no longer available new but perhaps you could find a used one. I had great luck with this camera. I unforetunately jumpin in and did not protect my camera...it was the last day of a fantastic tripin the Silimans and I got complacent. The waterhousing's backdoor opened and my camera was instantly a relic. I replaced it with the DC 1200 and really enjoy the camera. It also has Video capability. On a second trip to Thailand this last fall I used the DC1200 and again got fantastic results. The results got even better once I learned how to set my Whitebalance...no need for my strobes once I set the whitebalance.
Another camera that I bought was a Canon S90 (the S95 has HD video). I have been told that these cameras are a great camera...I would know, my daughter "borrowed" mine and I have not seen it since. She got great results in both photos and videos with the S90. It also has really cool "Land" features. I took the PADI UW Photo Course and the instructor used the S90 also.
Both of these cameras are small and what I would classify as Rec cameras. I have a friend who uses a Nikon 7000 and I have also seen Canon SLRs also used...but looking at $$$.
On the Scubaboard UW Video forum, I go the suggestion of getting my daughter a GoPro Video camera. Reasonably prices and it's uniquiness in its applications made it a great gift for my daughter...
