Just checkin' in. I'm planning my summer diving classes and looking to buy some gear. Both personally and professionally, I intend diving to be a part of my life, so I want to get a serviceable setup that will allow me to be comfortable and prepared as my experience grows. However, I'm just a poor grad student and don't want to dump 2 grand into untried options. My open water quals were done in Belize, where I've done most all of my ocean swinning over the last five years. So now I'm in Austin, Tx and I just found out we have all kinds of dive shops and opportunities to practice in a low visibility (and cold--not really, just in comparison) lake. I'm pretty comfortable with my new dive shops recommendation on a regulator and guage set, but a back inflated BC doubles my price through them, so I'm looking for options....

--Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun.

welcome to the board. if your planning on doing alot of travel, the sea quest Balance is a great bc. back inflated, hard backpack, 7 lbs dry plenty of d rings, and it fold really well for travel but very comfotable for every day diving. the price is right around 500.00 but well woth the investment.

welcome (scub)Aboard.

Just take your time and shop around and try different gear if possible. Good luck with your decision.

Hi there and welcome to ScubaBoard.com

From Belize to Lake Travis, that's quite a change. :11: You can find cheap flights to Cozumel there, tho.

Dealing with local operators with personal warranty and service is always best, and I like to know the fellow who services my reg. I also know his wife and two of his kids :)

have fun don
