Hello to you all,
I joined the forum today and want to introduce myself.
I am a PADI rescue diver. I live right in the middle of England about as far from the sea as you can get, so most of my week to week diving is done in a flooded quarry called Stoney Cove. Its about 5 acres of water that drops to about 130 feet in the deepest part. It has a wreck of a sea going tug in there as well as a Wessex heliocopter, and a few other things. It is a good place to practice and train in relative safty. In the summer the temperature rises to a heady 18c (about 65f) and in the winter drops to near freezing point. I do dive in there right though the year.
When I can I go to the coast and dive in the sea, looking at the many wrecks that there are around the coast of Britain and anything else that takes my interest. Myself and a couple of buddies are planning a trip to Egypt for a live-aboard holiday in the Red Sea.
So as you can see, we are not frightened of the cold, nor are we frightened of terrorists.
I'm getting a little grey round the temples now having first learned to dive in 1970 as a diver in the Royal Navy. I didn't go into the water for many years after leaving the service, but eventually qualified as PADI and got back in. I love it all over again.
I now have about 600 dives in total, about 400 the first time round and about 200 as a PADI diver.
I hope I have painted a picture of who I am and what I do, and look forward to conversing with you all in the future.
By the way, a Silkie is a mythological creature similar to a Large Seal that has the magical ability to take the form of a man when it is on the land. Comes from Scottish folk law I think.
Best Wishes,
Silkie.
