Newly certified dad and two teenage boys. Been diving awhile in Florida waters just never got around to getting certified until I got the boys to try it last year in the Keys. So I figured it was time to set the example with them. Checkout dives in cold freshwater is a different ballgame. Back to Marathon in the Keys in 2 weeks. Anyone been on the Thunderbolt lately ? How deep are the mooring balls and how was the current ?

Wanted to let you know that the Dive Stop opened in New Melle. 65' 10-20' vis. Was there on Sunday and the water temp was 50 on the bottom. Always open to go, Tim

Howdy and Welcome to SB.com!

Haha, the T-Bolt and it's submerged balls. Memories. You were diving that before certification? Wow!

Great to see a St Louis diver here ... your cert dives done at Mermet?

Hi Bob....yep, did the checkout dives at Mermet several weeks ago. Viz around the platforms 3-5 at best but opened up a little better around the plane. Surface temp was nice, around 70ish and 50 at the nose of the plane @50'. Having lived in Florida and dove there this was my first fresh dive in the chillier waters. Looking forward to warm waters again in 2 weeks.

Welcome to the ScubaBoard! 3-5 ft. viz gotta luv that!!!!

Hi Pat! We are fly'in down July 3rd as long as long as weather permits. We are going into Key West to land ... but we are actually talking about one day to be up in Key Largo to dive the Grove. We'll hook up sometime. Jeff, Keith and I along with a few friends. Hey no students!!! It's play time! So, the plane is getting it's annual so we should be good to go. We have 6 so far with 2 more seats if any other friends want to come.

Call you when we get there. We might even spend the night in Debbie's condo in Largo over night if we do dinner is on.
