Heya and welcome to the Board....

That was a very amusing post! Firstly, I would liek to welcome you to ScubaBoard! Secondly, I'm pretty sure no diver ever died because the vis was so bad he couldn't find his way up again. Diving the UK isn't just for hardcore divers, I'm very sure you could do it too. If it the yemprature you are afraid of, try getting a dry suit. I like them better than wet suits!!

Cheers,
Jess

Hi all

I've just been initiated into the joys of diving at Sharm el Sheikh-my first time ever I've got severe withdrawal symptoms now because I only booked a week... :-( and I can't think of anything else except diving now!!! ... I am convinced that diving in UK is only for really hard mad people that eat nails for breakfast and lie about getting hypothermia and about all their friends that died because they had no visibility and couldn't find the way up again. Am I right? Can a wimpette like me survive the UK? Or had I better wait until I have hols and ££ for a long weekend somewhere warmerAny words of wisdom most appreciated!!!

Ok, here goes .... welcome first of all.

Sharm el Sheikh, huh? Never been but I know you have already been spoiled.

I thought what you did about UK diving because I learned in warmwater too. HOWEVER.... like you, I was so obsessed, that I couldn't wait for the holidays to come so I was forced to take to the water in the UK.

I am a wimpette and I have survived. It does take a bit of getting used to but when it is good it is very good. I did OW and AOW in warmwater and Rescue and DM in cold water at home. I am glad I learned abroad and adapted to UK - I think it would have been hard for me to begin here. Bad enough converting as a relatively experienced diver!

But it has been worth it. It is different to the Red Sea but it has its own charms. And ultimately, if you want to dive more than a couple of times a year, you have no option!!

Can't help with the London thing - but anyway, the best diving is up north anyway!!

Go for it :dazzler1:

Welcome to Scubaboard!

Safe ascents!!!

You just discovered the dark and awful truth about diving: It is the ultimate drug.
Enjoy the ride.

Hi all

I've just been initiated into the joys of diving at Sharm el Sheikh-my first time ever :07: :07: :07: . I've got severe withdrawal symptoms now because I only booked a week... :-( and I can't think of anything else except diving now!!! Slight snag is having grown up in a warm country (Italy - I'm English in theory but my body's thermostat believes it is Italian ;-) ) and learnt in an even warmer country (Egypt) I'm at a loss what to do now. I am convinced that diving in UK is only for really hard mad people that eat nails for breakfast and lie about getting hypothermia and about all their friends that died because they had no visibility and couldn't find the way up again. Or froze whilst looking for the way up. Am I right? Can a wimpette like me survive the UK? Or had I better wait until I have hols and ££ for a long weekend somewhere warmer, and if so where is my nearest best bet? And can anyone recommend a GOOD scuba club in London? Any words of wisdom most appreciated!!!

Greetings from Matt,

Welcome to Scuba Board! I came here to look for help with my scuba diving dream and the response has been fantastic. So, I know you will enjoy being a member here.
There are a lot of nice and informative scuba divers. It's a good place to meet other divers and share experiences and dreams. Take care from Matt. :butnhome:
