I'm not exactly new to diving. I've actually been through two open water certification classes in the past - a PADI course in '96 and a NAUI course around 2000. Both times went great. I enjoyed the classes and seemed to do well with it all. I just never completed my open water dives. I did a couple of dives following the NAUI training, but resurfacing with a mask full of blood at the end of that trip scared me off a little. I've read up on it, figured out that it was probably due to poor equalization on my part, and I've gotten over it.

I've recently had the desire to try getting certified again and maybe actually finish it all this time. I know quite a few people who do some spearfishing in my area, and listening to all their reports and seeing pictures of all the local reefs I've been fishing from the surface for years is really making me want to get down there and take a look for myself.

I hate to think how much I will have spent on my open water certification by the time I actually get certified. :D

welcome to the boards! I just recently joined myself and am currently living in SC as well. Are you in the upstate or low country? If you are in the upstate there are some great lakes to dive here, as well as great instructors, I just finished mine with Upstate Scuba, and they were great to work with.

I'm actually down in Charleston.

I might have to look into some of those lakes. I was actually supposed to complete my first set of open water certification dives in Lake Jocassee the first time I went through the course. Wish I had - would have saved me all the trouble and added expense today!

Well, it's official. I'll be taking the open water class once again at the beginning of May with Aquatic Safaris in Wilmington, NC.

Now I just need to find my mask/fins/snorkel from the last class...
