Hello everyone. I've wanted to learn to dive for years and finally decided it was time. The funny thing is I know the exact chain of events that led to me doing more than musing about the whole thing. My brother and I have a big piece of property so far up in Maine that the only time we use it is Columbus Day week for a legendary camping/party that attracts as few as 12 but as many as 40 hardy souls for debauchery. This year, instead of my Moss tent, I opted for the Bibler single wall, and found it to be, well, smelly. Upon return to Mass and after a call to Bibler, they suggested I use Mirazyme to combat the aroma. Well the search for this elixer led me to a dive shop and I was rehooked. The first day at North Atlantic Scuba I met Jeff, the proprieter, and confessed to my desire. He signed me up for a PADI course that starts in January, and I left (with my mirazyme), feeling good about my decision. Life is too short to keep putting off stuff you want to do. Really. Unfortunately, I am, like many of you, unable to control my need to aquire new stuff. I tried to fight it, but after surfing all the scuba sites I got myself into an aquisition lather. I wanted it all. Scubapro, Atomic, Apeks, SeaQuest, Suunto, Uwatec, Apollo, blah, blah, blah, ad infinitum. When I returned to NAS to get a real look at some of the stuff I had been oogling online, the temtation was too great. I went from casual observer to active purchaser in about 15 minutes. Trust me, I was not coerced, I did this to myself. So, as this is my first post, I'll tell you what I bought and let the critical observations fly. SeaQuest Pro Unliited XXL as I am a large monkey, Suunto Cobra w/ compass, QD and cable, Mythos mask, Hyperstretch 7mm with hood vest thingy, Apeks Black Pearl (2 actually, I still don't know why, one for Sunday?), v-tek fins, deep see gloves and boots, no tanks, Aqualung integrated air supply, etc etc. I have a unhealthy desire to buy a D19 but will probably wait until I've been in the water at least once. This is quite a leap of faith considering I've never taken breath one under water but in my heart I know I'm going to love it. Even if I only inspect the anchor chain and clean the waterline on the sailboat I'll be ahead of the game in 2 years. I really didn't want to chime in until I had something useful to add, but I'm under the influence of Bombay this evening and I feel extra interesting, which will probably end by the morning. Anyway, greeting to all of you, and let me know if I've made any glaring omissions or bad decisions. Mark
