jerry1818. . . welcome to ScubaBoard, and to Oklahoma diving. We try to predict the future weather, by what the weather and diving conditions have been like in the past. Right now we are having our third heavy snow fall of this season, and pushing for an all time record snow fall for the winter. With that caveat, we "normally" have a dry winter, without much wind, and the lakes clear up from the bottom to top. Tenkiller often will have 30 feet of visibility, and sometimes better around the cliffs in the lower end of the lake.

Water temperatures will favor a dry suit or a layered 7 mm full suit with hood and gloves. There are a number of places at Tenkiller to dive right out of the back of your car. . . better dive places available to boats, and like all winter diving everywhere, you must be prepared to dry off and warm up immediately after the dive.

Because you'll be in the Norman area, day trips south on I-35 to Lake Murray, shore diving near the dam are enjoyable. Another destination from Norman would take the new H.E. Bailey bypass, just past the casino entrance, south west to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge, just north of Ft Sill and Lawton. Elmer Thomas lake is at the foot of Mt Scott and just inside the entrance to the Wildlife Refuge. There is shore diving from several day use areas.

Diving conditions are easy, visibility is often very good, and local conditions are available by calling any of the Oklahoma City, Norman dive shops. Any chance to "Blow Bubbles" is a good chance.

Thanks for the tips - I decided to bring my gear and try some of the local diving. I found OK Scuba in Norman that organizes some local dives and I found out that the Oklahoma City Community College offers "Scuba Tuesday" at their pool (18.5' deep) - 1.5 hours for $4. I'll take advantage of that to play with some new gear.

Thanks Again,
Jerry

Hello OK divers,
I am going on a cruise to the western carribbean this June and am planning on making a couple of dives while I'm there. The problem is I haven't been in the water for a little over a year and would like to take a refresher class first. Any good suggestions around the OKC area for a refresher class?

WOW Oklahoma City is like the dive Mecha of Oklahoma. There are at least 6 shops I know of just in the OKC area. If you want an indoor course Poseidon adventures in Tulsa is a year round dive refresher.

You can try Adventure Sports on Hefner road. They have an indoor pool. Or you can try Bluewater Divers south Okc they use Oklahoma city community colleges indoor pool
