Hello, my name is Jason. My diving experience is limited to recreational snorkeling and freediving (>30ft). This spring I introduced my wife and 8 year old daughter to snorkeling. What started out as a toy snorkeling set for my daughter has turned into a snorkeling trip every weekend this summer.:D We are now wanting to expand into SCUBA.:confused: We look forward to meeting new friends and learning as much as we can.

Where are you going for these snorkeling adventures?

If I can make a recommendation with the extreme diving conditions on the North Coast make sure to get taught by an excellent instructor that is going to cover the conditions we dive in. Naui classes tend to be much more suited to North Coast diving, and in the end wind up costing the same as PADI. Through Naui you will receive more instruction time. One of my dive buddies is having his gal get certified through Pyratescuba.com but your location dictates who your instructor is going to be. Have fun out there :)

We live in Redding, Ca.

For now we are freshwater at Whiskeytown Lake. It's close enough for frequent trips.

My daughter has always been comfotrable around water. First time out we had her in a life jacket and got her used to breathing under water. Second trip out she could clear her mask and snorkle. By the third trip we brought sinking pool toys (dive rings) and she was freediving 10+ft.:14:

I guess you could say she took to it like "a fish to water":eyebrow:

Now, I'm gathering info to gage if she is ready for the added gear and responsability of a tank. There is more to SCUBA than being a good swimmer. The higher the comfort level in the water the easier it will be to focus on the other aspects (safety, charts, reading gages, nav, etc.) ...At least that's the theory I'm goin on.

When she is ready we will try to get certified ta the same time.
 
There are lots of options in SAC. Dolphin Dive Center on El Camino Ave is the biggest operation in town and they have an outstanding reputation. I didn't find much in Redding when I did a search.

Your daughter is young, but on good for you for encouraging her interest. Scuba is a great family adventure.
