Hello from Montreal

Hi,

I just joined up and per the helpful suggestion of the welcome e-mail am taking time to introduce myself.

I live in Montreal and try and dive just about anywhere I get a chance to. This year that has included Roatan, the Red Sea, Atlantic Canada and the Great Lakes. In the Montreal area I tend to do mostly wreck diving and would be interested in hearing from those who share a similar interest. In warmer climes its the pleasure of watching the local wildlife that takes my main interest though wrecks and caves are always intersting.

I've been diving 26 years and have over 4500 logged dives (I am kind of bad in that I don't log many anymore). I worked for 5 years as a professional diver with primarily a military/government focus. Now days I am strictly a "for fun" diver though I am giving some thought to getting back into tech diving. Would love to hear from any interesting potential dive buddies, and those wishing to exchange advise on where to dive.

Well it was infact 6 years of 5-6 dives per day (100 day diving season) and 20 of more like 40-50 dives per season if you are really into math . Not that I have the energy or desire to do the heavy cycle diving anymore but certainly getting wet more often would be good.

You really should log your dives! How else will anybody believe that you're qualified to dive...

You are right. I should. Dive computers and complacancy I guess. As to bonafides isn't that why we have advanced (divemaster, Instructor, AI, Nitrox etc.) c-cards?

Honestly, have you not met plenty of divers with thick log books that were still a hazard underwater? Putting it in a book does not mean you can dive. I am sure there are many divers with fewer logged dives than I who are much better trained in current techniques and more proficient and generally better than I currently am. That said, I suppose the old dog should use the old tricks too.

Hi Al,

Thanks. I love diving out in BC and WA. Really want to try Alaska sometime but for my money BC has some of the best diving anywhere. Certainly when next I am headed out there I will be asking for some tips on good dive sites.

Site seems pretty well layed out. Will certainly keep your offer in mind. Actually I do have one question. I am interested in getting some market size information on teh dive computer market. How many units sold, price ranges, install base, growth etc. Any idea where I might start such a quest?
