Hello Everyone!
I'm Alanna. I'm 25 years old. I live in Michigan. I've been diving for about 2 years and I find it's a great escape from my job and from school. Although I've had some 'pressure' (for lack of better word) to go on to be a rescue diver, I've decided to stay where I'm at as a basic diver for now. I don't want to ruin the sport that I love so much.
I have been married for 3 1/2 years and I'm getting my husband SCUBA lessons for his birthday this year. I'm very excited to be sharing this sport with my husband.

Welcome to the board. Don't think that going to the level of Rescue Diver would ruin the sport. Maybe I don't understand and your work wants to use you.. If that is the case, I can understand. Just remember that learning more about the sport is not a bad idea... It would give you a better understanding of the sport and may help to save your life or someone elses life....

Welcome!

Hope you enjoy SCUBA Board, I'm sure you will have an opportunity to learn and share. I have found people to be very helpful. If I can help you feel free to contact me.

All the best,

Paul

Hi Alanna.

Welcome to the board. Make sure to come over to the Great Lakes Wrecking Crew in the clubs section of the board. We're a pretty active group of divers, many of which are in Michigan. It will be a good place for you to get information on Great Lakes diving and possibly hook up with other divers.

There's a group of us getting together next weekend at Gilboa if you are interested.

Howdy and welcome to ScubaBoard.com

I've been diving for 3 years now, and while I am interested in becoming a better diver, I also have little interest in the Rescue course. Instead, I am pursuing Technical training possibilities.

You might talk to DAN, though - about their courses. You may find their Oxygen Provider training appealing, or - you may prefer to keep your sport separate from you vocation.

Whatever, enjoy yourself here. :dazzler1:

Hello again Alanna.

Realized I didn't comment on your rescue diver statement. I've just always felt having a rescue diver cert was very beneficial. I'd hate to be in a situation where I could have helped but didn't know how. Realize you are an EMT so much of the course will be old hat, but there are things specific to rescue during SCUBA scenarios. Now if you are talking about becoming a member of an actual SCUBA rescue team, that's a whole other thang!

Hope to see you over at the Great Lakes wrecking Crew either way. & even diving some day.

Paula

Thanks everyone for your input! Someday I'll pursue Rescue Diver. Just not now. I guess I should have been a little more clear on that point. I love to dive and it is my time to get away from work. It's a great relaxation for sure.
I will definately check out the Michigan Wrecks board. I didn't even see it the first time though, thanks to the tip!
