Hello everyone,

Both my wife and I are really new to the diving world. We recently came back from a Royal Caribbean cruise and we tried to complete our PADI certification. However, thanks to Tropical Storm Fay, we could not complete our open water part due to strong current (it's bad when the fish swam backwards and the diving instructor could not hold on to the rocks (no corals or wildlife attached) below.)

Anyway, they certified us for the class and confined dives. Does anyone know if it is possible for us to complete our open water portion only? I would hate to repeat the whole thing and paid for the whole thing again. Royal Caribbean said we can try to complete it the next time we are back with them, but not sure if they will charge us.

Both of us look forward to being more connected to the diving world.

Tony

Hi Tony,
1st, Let me welcome you and your wife to :sblogo:! You'll find lots of great people here, and plenty of advice.
2nd, Sorry about Fay ruining your certification. Sounds like it was rough going.
3rd, So long as it was an official PADI class, you can get a referral to any PADI facility in the world to do the open water portion of your training, it's done all the time You should have your instructor's name and number, plus the training portion of your log books where s/he signed off. Contact your instructor and get a referral form. If you cannot do that, see where you would like to do your open water portion, and contact the nearest PADI facility there. If you explain the situation, they should be able to help you no problem.
Hope this helps,
George
