Ok so by today I should hear something then if not, tomorrow the latest. They did say people can come down to their local pool session on Monday at 8pm so I could pay them a visit and get a feel for the place to see if it is any good. I’m waiting for my medical form to be returned so can’t take part just yet but still worth a visit.

BSAC use the UKSDM self-decleration form. Only if you answer 'yes' to any question would you need to contact a diving medical referee. The PADI one doesn't meet the UKSDM requirements, is required by PADI/SSI commercial operators because PADI/SSI tell them so.

🤦🏽‍♀️ Looks like I’m going down the PADI route then because I am already having to pay to get their medical form done. I just assumed it was the same tbh but no point it doing it twice.. it says they will accept PADI trained people and in that case I guess their medical form needs filling as I will have an active approval to dive?

Also I had one yes GERD so had to get it approved.

The BSAC one is here. Yes all agencies recognise each others qualifications.

Thank you for your reply. Yeah I saw the cost and it was eye watering and even more so that it was just to give you the qualifications with no guarantee of a job.. but then I could look worldwide after the course right?

Also they ask for OW or AOW to even start which is why I decided to go this route
Is the only reason you want to do it that few women do it? Do you already have skills such as welding, etc? It looks dirty, cramped, and no fun. And no guarantee of a job after paying a lot for training.

Wow this form is a lot more thorough than the PADI one! Unfortunately there is still “yes” answers on this one so would need another approval for now but I’m guessing I would need this form regardless if I join the club before training or after?

No the fact I’m a woman doesn’t factor into it at all, I brought it up because I was saying that it is a male dominated career so that is who I would be competing against which is already going against me, but I was saying nonetheless I’m determined to try as hard as I can to get where I need to. I also didn’t realise it was male dominated until I started looking for YT videos and noticed only men.

I don’t care if it “looks” fun or not or the conditions.. as long as I can get the job done as safe as possible, also I don’t have any skills such as welding however they are not that hard to pickup where I am but then underwater welding and such is a while other ball game regardless.

this is something I'd DEFINITELY recommend, I did something like that- a "try/discover dive" and let me tell you I was a lot less nervous for my first full session than I would've been. You know more what to expect when you know the feel/vibe of it all. You'll also have an idea of your comfort level and what things you may have more trouble with- basically know what you'll need to practice more.

By the way, the one school ik of helps you with finding a job straight out of graduation. I feel like all schools should have a career mentor like that. You'd have to check into your nearby ones & see.

I just don’t want to test it if I’m unable to continue with the course because I can’t get my medical approved. I’m going to call my dr tomorrow to find out what’s going on because if they can’t sign it I need to book a specialist appt in time for next intakes… for some reason I keep feeling like I won’t get the approval I need 🤨😑

Yeah they should have connections and link ups like that, but if/when I start I will find out
