My name is LeAnne Larsen and I'm from Des Moines, IA. I did an intro dive while I lived in Australia for the summer 2 years ago. Now I've decided to get certified and visit my friend stationed over in guam and go diving with him. I've been on here researching different types of gear. It is a lot more complicated then I originally thought. I'm looking at starting the class next month.

Welcome to Scuba Board! I grew up in NW Iowa and now LIVE in Australia :D

Enjoy your course and the board - have a look at all of the forums here as there is probably a place for any of the questions you are going to have as a new diver or about purchasing gear. Then, of course, there are the travel sections with excellent advice on how to get the most from your holiday!

Have fun!

Heya LeAnne, welcome to the Board!!!! sounds like your very serious about getting your certification. If there's anything I can do to help you out, let me know. Keep us updated on your progress..

Hi Leanne, weclome to the board. Congratulations on making the move to starting this most addictive of activities. It was over ten years between me taking an intro to scuba and signing up for a class. Wish I hadn't taken so long now!!! The equipment side can get really complicated and really the best way of finding out which is right for you is to try a wide variety of gear. That means diving a lot - oh so bad, I know!! ;) And it means renting or persuading dive shops to borrow but it could be better than buying something that after a few dives you don't feel comfortable with. I know I made a few rash decisions in the gear I bought!! Anyway, good luck with your classes and dive safe. :)

Hi Leanne...I'm from Dubuque originally, and have been over here in Guam for about 9 years now. Used to get down to Des Moines (NOT Dez Moinz, ha ha) every spring back when Dubuque Wahlert was pretty strong in basketball way back when...
Anyhow, I have a little dive shop here in Guam....I have a website with a fair amount of photos & dive site descriptions if you want to take a look & get some ideas on places you might want to dive. Had a pretty good week....saw a manta last week, and yesterday a spotted eagle ray. Anyhow, hope you have a good time here...let me know if you have any questions about restaurants, diving, whatever....of course, if you already have a friend stationed here, that will help out.

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

It's great to hear that you are ready to take the next step and go for your certification! Have fun in your class. If you read a lot on this board between now and then, I think that it will make the class that much more interesting when you take it.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or respond to in this forum.
