Hi everyone. I just got OW certified a few weeks ago and thought I'd drop in and say hello. I have a Coz trip in August and will be trying to hit CSSP as often as I can.

Congrats on the cert. I have my OW class next month and will be doing my cert dives there at CSSP on the 14th/15th. Unfortunately, I live out in NW Fort Worth, so it's quite a hike to get out there to CSSP so I won't be able to make it out there quite as often as I would like to. Oh well, I'll just have to make the trek as often as possible.

svnipp, congrats!

Both you fellows hit Lake Murray just north of the Tx/Ok border, nice lake most of the time.

Good luck with the class. Some of the skills were a bit tough for me but I got through it okay. I actually had a blast. Watch out for the ear nibblers out at CSSP!

Wear a beanie or pull your mask straps over your ears will help.

i got re-certified a few weeks ago at CSSP too :) congrats!

I don't know how well beanies work.. a girl in my class wore a cover and still had a little fish get her... twice :chuckle:

spector39,
Congratulations on the certification and welcome to the board!
Hope to see you around the swamp some time.

svnipp,
If you live in NW FW, I will guarantee that you are closer to Lake Murray than CSSP. A group of us make a run up to Murray on a somewhat regular basis. Just post up here on the board.

Where is that group?? Where are my dive buddies ?? :headscratch:

I wear a quality beanie all year....and a good one will protect those nasty little biters from drawing blood! ;)

Actually Lake Murray is about 20 miles further than CSSP according to Google Maps. That said, I will probably end up giving it a shot sometime especially if it has good visibility and no snakes. :)

It can have good vis which does not allow one to expand their low vis skills,,but more likely it will have ok vis for a southern lake in summer.

As to snakes, ALL lakes including CSSP has snakes, though they are rarely seen and make themselves scares. Most are water moccasins and will swim along the surface---remember it's their home and your the guest!

A divers down flag is required by OK. law, and watch for fishing line and lures, best to stick to the buddy system as you are new, and listen for boats, as they will at times disregard your flag and or not see you if you happen to pop up in open water.

If your basic class is worth the $ you pay, and has a good instructor , they should touch on these topics.
