My wife and I just got certified and I think we're hooked. We're working on getting our own equipment, but we went out last week and made our first dive by ourselves. Very exciting but we were both a little nervous.

Hi David,

I'm Tim in Malvern, Chester county. Welcome to the board! Hang around and ask lots of questions, there are many helpful people here.

Where did you do your checkouts?

Hey Tim,

2 check dives in Dutch Springs and 2 in Bainbridge. Since then my wife and I had 2 additional dives in Bainbridge without instructor. That was quite exhilarating. I was navigating and watching depth and working on boyancy. I literally had my hands full. We have been working on getting kitted up. Just got a great deal on a whole pile of equipment including 2 Mares Hubs which I will probably sell since we already have reg/octos.

Those first few dives on my own were pretty memorable too. Check out the Dive NY forum if you want to meet up with a bunch of friendly local divers. It's an opt-in group on the board, just go to the quick links tab, group preferences and check Dive NY. One of the mods will add you.

Hi David. As Tim says we have a regional forum/group/family here on Scuba Board called DNY. Come on in and visit. A really great group of divers, and always welcoming new members and new divers.

not to worry about being nervous. We have all been there, and in some situations some of us still are!

Stop over to the DNY group here on the board. There is a big meet eat and greet event with them happening soon. Good chance to meet some of the people you might be interacting with here on the board.... might even find a few "expert" divers willing to let you dive with them and learn under thier gentle "wisdom"....or not.

Welcome to the board and as always have fun!!!

Congrats and welcome :bounce4: I also hang with the DNY group, not too much more to add to what the guys said except to let your wife know that there are a few enthusiastic (ok, ok, we are total junkies) women divers in the group also :D
