Hi, newbie here, No. Calif., got certified a year ago in Monterey Bay. Warmer will probably be better for me. ;-)
 
Welcome to ScubaBoard. California offers some fine diving with distinctive features you won't find at some of the popular regional warm water destinations - such as kelp forests. The sea lions and harbor seals are a big plus vs. the Caribbean.

But yes, it's nice to dive warm water with a good deal less exposure protection (how much less depends heavily on the individual). You might enjoy giving Cozumel, Roatan, Belize, Bonaire or the Caymans a try.
