The Dad....Yeah, I think it was Robert Hills....Awesome instructor....They trained me in the River and lake.....I had about 3 dives after cert with them...then talked my way into a Marine Geological Research team fielded by 3 colleges.....to study Bucco Reef off of Tobago for a month.
My first dive was to 140 feet ( first time in Ocean), and the head Geologist, a former Navy UDT guy, swam up to me at 140 feet, demanded my reg ( people only had one 2nd stage in those days -circa 1976) , kept it for about 10 seconds, then ripped my mask off, to see how I would react....
Bob had trained me well with his Naui class, so I cleared the mask with remaining breath, facially and with hands, indicated WTF, enough, and he gave me my reg back, quite happy with himself.
Of course, the reason
I as a freshman was there in the first place, on a project for seniors and grad students, was that I had said I would be able to do all the things his
poindexters could not do...and the ex Navy guy, Taylor Loop, really liked that
Any way, just saying , Great Lake did me a great favor with intense training, and the area is great for introducing many challenges to a diver, that they can use later in adventure dive scenarios.
