Since this is my first post to ScubaBoard I figured I would go ahead and tell everyone hello and tell a little about myself.

Just like the title says, I live in Atlanta, Georgia and I got into diving about a month ago. I'm currently working on getting my NAUI Scuba Diver certification from a friend of my boss. I hope to have the certification finished by the end of August, but that will all depend on my work schedule and my instructor's schedule.

I went scuba diving for the first time during my trip to Cancun, Mexico at the beginning of this month. I went with my boss (certified diver) and several of the guys I work with and while we were down there, we decided to take a day to get our "discovery" certification and go do a 2 tank dive on one of the reefs. I am very comfortable in the water, but I was still a bit nervous about the first dive. After I got in the water and got comfortable enough to enjoy the scenery, I was immediately hooked on diving. I am still amazed at all the wildlife we saw during our 2 dives...angel fish, yellow fins, baracuddas, parrot fish, a 4' nurse shark, a sea turtle, and even a lobster!

After the dive in Cancun, we decided to take another day to go down to Tulum to visit the Mayan ruins and then go to Cozumel on the way back so we could see about going diving again. We ended up getting in a car wreck on the way back from Tulum so I never got to go diving in Cozumel....I guess that will have to wait until my next trip.

Well, enough about me. I look forward to meeting new people and sharing diving experiences on this message board. BTW, are there any other engineers on this board (I am a mechanical engineer)?

Welcome to the board!

Good luck with your cert. Be sure to check out the New2Scuba forum. It's got a lot of good information for folks who are just starting out.

Welcome to the board and the sport,

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

Sounds like you're "livin' large" now that you're diving with a group of guys from work. Hopefully it helps when you need to get a day off from work and your buddy happens to be the boss. :D

Sorry to hear about the car wreck, although hopefully, no one was hurt. Speaking of wrecks (there's a segue for you), now that you're a diver you can check out some cool ship wrecks once you have the experience and proper training.

Dive safe.

Christian
