I just completed my PADI classroom and confined water dives at Pan Aqua Diving. I'm currently thinking that I'm going to do my dives with Pan Aqua next month at Dutch Springs. But, I'm antsy and excited to continue learning about diving and can't wait for all the new experiences. I wish there was some way I could do it sooner. :)

I look forward to meeting other local divers and hopefully making some new friends.

Greets all!

Next month at Dutch will be cold!
How about a trip to Cozumel ,leaving May 21 to 28th? I have a group out of NY going and a few will be getting their ow training dives completed there. PM me if interested...How many times did Pan Aqua take you to the pool? Just interested as I know pool time in NYC is very valuable and sometimes too short.

Welcome. When will u be at dutch?

NJDiverMark, Assuming I go with them, it'll be the weekend of May 28th and 29th.

oly5050user, yes - it will be cold but i'm not afraid of that (yet). Unfortunately, I already have travel plans during the time you're in Cozumel with your group. As for time in the pool. I'm not sure what exactly par for course is with respect to time, but we had 3 instructors/divemasters in the pool for about 8 or 9 students for 3-4 hours a day for 3 days. 3-4 hours not including the break down and set up time. I don't know how those times compare with other places, but I left the water the last night feeling confident, but not cocky, and prepared to continue learning.

Ahh ill be there may 7-8 for my advanced dives. If u ever want to come to nj to do some shore diving let me know.

glad to hear you had a good amount of pool time. There are facilities in NYC that only take you to the pool 1 time and that is it.I always recommend Pan Aqua to people located on Manhattan that cannot come up to Yonkers/Westchester where I am located.

Lacking any comparison and experience, I really felt that Pan Aqua's instruction was top notch. Tom Moran, the instructor for my course was willing (and did) take time to individually work with students who had trouble with any skill that we were asked to demonstrate. For the most part nobody had many problems except what I would expect as normal amateur things. Like at the end of the time in the pool as my tank got low, keeping from popping up while swimming in the shallow end was a struggle. They even invited a student to come back for the next class since she was having a little more trouble and could use some extra pool sessions. I really thought that showed some true interest in doing more than simply "Putting Another Diver In".

Welcome to the wonder world of diving! Dutch is a great place for training, getting that nitrogen fix and hanging out with other divers. There is a ton to be learned just hanging out.

If you head over to the Dive NY forum on ScubaBoard there are a lot of local folks that can show you the great local opportunities in the area. Lots of folks in the city.
