Hello! I just started my certification this past weekend here in North Florida. I would've finished if I'd been able to complete the open water dives on Sunday, but I was having trouble equalizing so we're going to make them up on another day; after I've gone to the doctor to be sure my ears are okay. I'm looking forward to more adventures underwater once I'm completely certified!!!

howdy and welcome from your south Florida neighbor....best wishes with the ENT doctor.....

Welcome. Where in N. Fla.?

Congratulations. Take it easy on your ears. You can visit the DAN website to find helpful information about equalizing. Click on Medicine--Frequently Asked Questions--Ear, Nose, and Throat. www.diversalertnetwork.org

Welcome to scubaboard! As others have said - your ears are important - make sure you are equalizing safe and correctly. Don't rush it - the water isn't going anywhere.

welcome from Florida's dive paradise of the Treasure Coast! come join us on any of our dive trips at the Vero Beach Scuba Club. find us on Facebook or www.verobeachscubaclub.org

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! Ears are all good; just a built of wax buildup that the doc was able to clear up in a few quick minutes. Will definitely heed the advice for equalizing, too!

TMHeimer, I'm about an hour west of Gainesville. We're near a bunch of really cool springs (Devil's Den, Troy Springs, Manatee Springs, etc.) and right on the Suwannee River. Plenty of places to check out when finish my certification in a few weeks.

Welcome to Scubaboard. Take it slow with equalizing. I had a dive buddy that took many, many minutes to descend. It was just the way he was built and wasn't a problem for me. He was a good buddy. Just let the group/your buddy/the DM know ahead of time.
