it saddens me that I find these forums when we decide to stop diving. My wife and I were turned onto diving during our honeymoon in Australia. Our first dive was on the great barrier reef and I came up and new I had to continue. We got fully certified through advanced and we went on to a photo cert and I continued to rescue. I was already a licensed captain with a 100 mile 100 ton master from all the fishing charters I ran in NY.

However, my wife was then diagnosed with Lupus. At first we thought she might have been bent but we are very careful divers. She had to stop and I would not go very often without her and then only local.

We had hoped she would have gone into remission but after 10 years we have given up on that and will find other areas to have fun. We are selling off our equipment and will post that in the appropriate forum. Besides, we are now kind of landlocked near dallas (although just a short flight to Cozumel)

These forums are great places to meet, share and learn. Thanks for the listen.

Land locked nothing. You have some pretty decent dive site close to you. I understand the reason you have chosen to stop diving. I am truly sorry to here about your wife. If you are not sure that you want to quit diving Check out the Texas Swamp Divers. Lots of great people knowledgeable people.

If not HI and Good Bye. I do hope you at least stick around and swap stories

Sorry to hear about your wife, but best wishes on finding something that the two of you can do together.

I would hope you would hang around, you have something to offer.

Don't give up hope - I have Lupus, and still dive. I've been fortunate that it went into remission and has stayed that way for close to 8 years now.

Hello scales, my name is Matt. I would like to welcome you to ScubaBoard!

Sorry to hear about your wife also. I hope you and your wife find something to do together, I thought the snorkeling idea was pretty good, it wouldn't be too draining on her, plus water can be therapeutic.

I have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and I am working on my dream to get in the water to scuba dive. Hope you stay around!

Take care. :butnhome:

No experience needed and it feels great!

Thank you all for a great greeting. I did not mean to infer that there were no dive sites in Dallas but when you come from Long Island, Dallas really is landlocked in comparison. Yes there is diving (and probably warmer most of the time).

We still enjoy snorkeling but I don't think I could bear snorkeling over divers. The tropics are a great place to go even when you don't dive. Love the warmth and I just can't get enough time around large masses of saltwater. I think it is in my blood. Every time I get near it I get a yearn to remain.

Once again, I appreciate all the kind wirds and I will keep my head above water for now and check in to the forums. I will be more than happy to share what i know and my past experoences.

Thanks for the welcome.

Hello scales, welcome to Scubaboard first of all!

I too am sorry to hear about your wife's condition. I definitely understand your decision to not do something you love to do together without her. Maybe circumstances will change. But, if not, at least stick around. Maybe you'll find some satisfaction in helping new divers, or hearing about trips, or overall continuing to communicate about the sport.

I am sorry to hear of the challenges y'all are facing, and wish you the very best.

Thank you so much for your kind words...

Welcome to the board. I am also sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you find something you both can enjoy together. My wife and I both love diving, so we enjoy it together. Good Luck, and please stick around.
