HI
I am just getting started .... you could say diving into this underwater world.
Just signed up for class online, I have fear of the water silly me think i can scuba dive.
I so want to see this underwater world.

I have never been to the beach, never seen the ocean but I will it has been my wish my dream forever.

Be very careful...I have a friend who was not comfortable in the water at first, and he went to learn to dive. He could not handle the mask removal, paniced and jetted to the surface on his checkout at 25 feet, a VERY dangerous thing to do.

He did fail his first time checking out, and had some remedial work to do, and I had to teach him some swimming skills. But he finally passed, and is learning. One thing we had to do with him was put him in a bathtub with a mask and snorkel and make him practice removing the mask and flooding, till he was comfortable to go do remedial work.

At least your motivation is good (seeing the underwater world).
His first motivation to learn to dive was some girl telling me she thought divers were cool.

Maybe do some snorkeling first. Get more comfortable in the water. when I first found out I wanted to be a diver was a snorkeling trip in Hawaii, then did some skin diving there too, finally saved up my pennies and got certified.

Where are you located?

Thank You Untamedspirit ...

I have been snorkeling have always had my best friend with me I did fine and alright as long as he was right there. He no long is part of my life, I have to learn to do this on my own with out someone holding my hand. I get scared an freak out a bit even in the pool where I know I am safe. I will see the under water world!

I am located in Montana, very cold water !

All the best on your course mtmouse!

It's not silly at all to think you can learn to dive. I've had MANY students who started out with a bit of fear but once they saw how brilliant the underwater world was, they saw things very differently.

The Open Water Course will explain the important aspects of diving - health and safety, equipment and dive planning. With the knowledge, you may feel your confidence increasing.

If you feel a bit uncertain in the dark and cold water, just remind yourself:
  1. You have air
  2. You have equipment to help you down there
Stay warm and enjoy

Thank you Louie
Questions this morning... There is a scuba information clinic at a pool in town... I think they are trying to get people interested in diving. They said you can try it out ... put on the gear and into the pool you go. Is this a good idea? Is it safe when you know little or nothing?
Thank you!

Is it a discover scuba class? They are safe, some of the shops around here do them a lot, if they do it like the one here does, they start you off in the shallow end, where you kneel on your knees to get the hang, and you can stand right up if you need to. (Slowly of course)

I went to the information clinic, it was great just had trouble staying down they had to put 50 pounds of weight on me to keep me down..half my body weight. It was better once I stop just going to the surface. They had treasures to find I got a pair of fins cool huh!
I think I will be able to do this... I spoke to my doctor (who also dives) as how to best handle my asthma while diving. So I am now getting on top of that. I am excited can not wait to try it again...
