I recieved a call about two used Steel Heiser LP 104cu ft tanks made in 1998 and last Hydro was in 2004 and vis was this year. I can get them both for around $190 here is my concern. My usual dive buddies have AU 80's and my air consumption is either as good or better than theirs and I already have 2 AU 80's. What would be the reason to buy these tanks other than to remove weight out of my belt.

You better be a weight lifter. Heiser tanks are quite heavy and very negative underwater.

I was considering a set of these for a 2nd set of doubles..But when I compared the characteristics of them to my PST 104's..I couldnt believe the differance! They were a great deal...but I was sure I would have wished I didnt buy them in the long run..I bit the bullet and bought another set of PST's.

They can't possibly be any heavier than the gold 80's that he's currently diving... unless he meant Al 80 insteady of AU 80. :D I must admit, I'd never heard of tanks made of gold before, but I guess they wouldn't corrode at all. :shakehead

I currently am using 104 Heisers. I would not recommend using them as doubles. Those tanks will weigh over 50# each when full. You will sink to the bottom like an old reck. I am 6'3" and 210#, I wear no weight with a full 3mm suit with just one of them on my back. I used mine for 3 years and they needed to be stripped due to the amount of rust. (I would not reccomend them for salt water)

Wow I thought everyone dove with 18k gold tanks... my mistake. AL 80's ... 50 lbs. WOW I think I will stay with my AL. I will wait and go to steel in the future. Thanks for your input
