Well, this sounds like a familiar story. I retired in 2021. Certified in late 2022. Started accumulating gear. Wife diagnosed with cancer at end of 2022. She was in remission in 2023, but I had mountain bike injuries that kept me mostly out of the water. In 2024, I ruptured a disc which curtailed diving. In Jan 2025, my wife’s cancer came back with a vengeance. I may soon be a single parent with a disabled child living at home. I will not dive under those conditions. So at 66 years old, my diving days may soon be over before I really got a chance to get going. No regrets, I’ve met a boatload of awesome people here and elsewhere that I won’t forget.

Several months after the surgery something happened and you are blaming anesthesia? Pretty far fetched in my opinion with 40 years of experience in the field. Would like to hear more.

Sometimes weird things happen to the human body under Anesthesia. My Sister is a retired Anesthesiologist. We were comparing odd and funny things happening "on the job". My Law Enforcement stories were easily matched by her "sleeper" stories. She owned her own company and traveled all over the country sub contracting on special jobs. She said sometimes people have weird reactions to the drugs they use during surgeries. I can believe a bad reaction months later to Anesthesia drugs.

I would not dive if I had episodes of going unconscious without knowing what triggered them. On the other hand, I would not give up diving just because I was old and broken down and gimpy. Oh wait. I AM old and broken down and gimpy. I gave up trying to maneuver around with a tank on my back because of that but I just installed a hose on it and now I'm getting ready to start diving with a Hookah/SNUBA rig.
