:14: Off to Key Largo May 18th does anyone have some suggestions? I've been before, but looking for some great dive suggestions on sites and dive boats. Also night life any ideas? Anyone heading down? Can't wait for some warm deep dives. Spiegel Grove is upright, WOW.

Hey Doug,

I had a great time in Key Largo last year, but the Spiegle wasn't upright yet (it was still spectacular). The Bibb, Duane, and Eagle are all good wreck dives. Also, the Thunderbolt is definitely worth the drive down to Marathon. The French reef is very nice if you like reefs.

I can't recommend my dive op, because they committed the mortal sin of "dive time limiting." (ie. on a nice 30fsw reef dive, they said we had to be back on the boat in 60 min, and we could have easily stayed for 90 min) But I've heard good things about Silent World. You might be able to find some good information in this subforum for the Florida Conch Divers: http://www.scubaboard.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55

Have fun on your trip,
Mike

i can HIGHLY recommend QUIESCENCE divers. http://www.keylargodiving.com

six pack boats - no crowds -

Although our boats are USCG certifiable for up to 12 passengers, we have chosen to restrict our capacity to 6 divers for comfort, safety, and individualized attention.

captians are knowledgeable and will give you a great dive briefing - divers suggestions for dive spots actually listened to. they do have a business to run, but they are a lot more liberal with the TIME ISSUE.

ask to go to SNAPPER ALLEY and the PILLARS..... they're at the far end of park, but if the timing is right... it's well worth the trip. drop by http://piddlefish.servepics.com/SCUBA/video.html and grab a copy of the video...

night life? drop by "The Fish House Restaurant & Seafood Market" - for an expensive, but delicious meal.

i think they're closed now, but if they're still open.... best burger in the keys:

I seem to recall that Silent World commits the same "mortal sin." I did really enjoy my trip with them, though. Generally an hour seems to be enough for me. After that, I kind of want to get out.

Try HMS Minnow. It's a one man (Jeff Jarvis) operation with a single six-pack boat. No crowds and he gets you out to the sites before the cattle boats. We did the Spiegel and the Duane with him, last year. Jarvis is a real class act.

The Duane, the Bibb and The Speigel Grove are the best wrecks in the area - very coool dives, but LISTEN TO THE BRIEFING. The captains know the sites. The Benwood is technically a wreck, but in the 30-50 ft range, more of a reef dive. Can't spend all your time deep, so don't miss Snapper ledge - More fish then I ever saw in my life.

I was down there 3 wks ago. OD and Conch Republic are good, safe operations. My fave by far is http://www.scuba-do.com. Can't say enough good stuff about them. 10 divers max. They bring your gear to you on the platform, then you take your giant stride. Come back and they take your gear and swap tanks for ya. Fantastic crew and great briefs. It made a tourist like me feel a lot safer. Their prices are just a bit less than the other dive ops.
