My girlfriend and I are staying for 10 days at the Sunset Waters (Formerly Seabreeze) in July. We both are novice divers (only cert dives) so we're not looking to go out by ourselves this trip, but would like to dive and snorkel as much as possible. Sunset offers 1 free dive per day that is included with the room rate. We'll each have our own computers, fins, snorkel/mask, and will be renting the rest.

Been reading the forums and it seems like a good idea for each of us to get a skin suit to protect us from stings and the sun when snorkeling.

Any other advice? Things you wished you would have done or not done the first trip to Curacao?

Thanks!

I've done 25 dives around Curacao. Never used a wetsuit once, but a rashguard is probably a good idea.

I'd hit up Playa Kalki, very dense coral.

Call Mark & Suzy at the Divebus...You can't go wrong....They will get you over the nervous feeling very quickly.....

Maybe you're talking about Sunscape - isn't that the new name for Breezes?

Sorry...yes you are correct. It is the Sunscape that we're staying at.

Will look them up when we get there...thank you for the recommendation.

We stayed at Breezes (aka Sunscape now?) a couple years back, and did all our diving with The Dive Bus. They are next door to the hotel, and picked us up every morning on time. We had a fantastic time diving with them all around the island and many dives on the house reef, which we really liked as well.

If you stay in the hotel's tower (assuming it hasn't been renovated), be careful when you shower. The design of the tub & tile made it super easy to literally flood the whole bathroom with about 1" of water in no time. We used some rolled up towels to block the water flow after the first time this happened. Aside from that, we found the staff was a bit apathetic at times, while others were good. The food at the restaurants is much better than the buffet, so take the time to make reservations! The drinks are predictably weak and plentiful, but we didn't go to Curacao to drink so it wasn't a problem. I would suggest bring a big water bottle, or buy one in the gift shop and keep it. The cups for water are (or were at the time) quite small at the resort.

You may want to book with the Dive Bus in advance, depending on when you are going they may be very busy! You will not regret diving with them..it's a first-rate dive op. You'll be well taken care of.
