I'm going to the Thousand Islands, NY this Friday through Thursday. I stay in Alexandria Bay. It's supposed to be an awesome place to dive. I was wondering if anybody knows of any good dive spots, easy to get to spots or charters in the area? And if anyone else is going to be in the area, let me know and maybe we can set something up.

The Islander is a wreck, shore dive, immediately behind River Hospital in A Bay. There's a little park set up for divers behind the hospital, with a gazebo and nice entry ramp, plus parking. Go straight out, about 50', you'll see the dive flag tie-off on the wreck at about 27' depth.

For a dive two, head right (East), follow the contour at 25 - 30', you'll see buoyancy hoops, a platform, then a bit past that a big chain headed down from above water level -- follow that and you'll get to a big concrete block with a manmade attraction just to the east of it. Come up to about 40 feet, continue east and you'll see a cool overhanging rock, with a second one about 50' past the first. Come back up to around 25 - 30', follow the contour back to the entry point.

TIDE and Hunts in Clayton (30 minutes away, US) run charters, as does Pleasure Divers out of Rockport and Brockville (15 - 30 minutes drive East after crossing the 1000 Islands bridge into Canada). Otherwise, head to the Ogdensburg bridge crossing, go over, and there's the Connie, the Rothesay, and a scuba park, all in the immediate vicinity.

(Don't forget your passport if you want to do the Canada dives...)

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to look into a chartered dive while I'm there.

I'll be at the Islander Sat morning around 9, with a new diver going on his first post cert dives. My regular buddy will be going up with another newish diver.

I was up there a few weeks ago and the diving really is fantastic. We dove from the Canadian side with Abucs out of Brockville.

I'll second the recommendation for the Keystorm. If you get over to the Canadian side the Daryaw is a must see as well.

Have a good trip!

Daryaw's good, but the current can be a bit of a challenge -- it was pretty strong last weekend, only my buddy and I completed the full circuit, out of a group of 12.
Lilly Parson's also fun, a classic second drift dive. Note -- the rope at the end of the drift is cut, only extends to about 25' below surface now, with a 10' trailing piece. I could have sworn it went much deeper last year (buddy and I overshot at 50', came back upstream at 20' to find it).

Thanks for the links. The keystorm looks amazing. 111' is a little out of my range I think. I only have about 7 logged dives. My max depth to date is 60' and I was only there for about 5 minutes. I just passed the OW a couple of weeks ago.

That's one of the nice things about the Keystorm. She lies on her side on a shoal and goes from about 25' down to 110'. Go as far as you feel comfortable, there is lots to see all along her.
