Functionally both use basically the same format:
AVCHD utilizes MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVC) video coding
so you just need to make sure your hardware is up to speed to handle it.

My buddy edits AVCHD very well on a quad-core I7 with (at least?) 8GB and a good - but not great video card.

Check the requirements/recommendations for Sony's Vegas Movie Studio HD
Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Video Editing
or Pinnacle Studio Ultimate.
Pinnacle Studio Ultimate ? Share high-definition video to Blu-ray

You'll be much happier over the minimums. AVCHD editing is pretty demanding.

just ordered canon vixia hf m30 with canon wp-v2 housing!

thanks for your help

seems like they improved the low-light performance as well as overall video quality. then there is the cinema look filter, improved auto modus, story creator and a bigger screen.

however, it will be available only from march. also, it is obviously more expensive and, as far as i understand it, not a revolution.

i might be wrong though..
is the new m-series that much better? is waiting for it and the higher price justified?

what are your thoughts on m30 VS m40?
