My son and his fiance are heading to Kona on the big island of Hawaii in March. Neither are certified but have expressed interest in trying scuba. I suggested a Discover Scuba dive so they can get the initial exposure and decide if it is for them. Any suggestions as to a dive operator fir them to use on their trip?

Check out the the Hawaii O'hana forum. There is some good info there and there are people form the big island post there. Sorry but I am on Oahu so I don't know too much about the big island. Hope this helps you a little and Have a Merry Chirstmas.

Aloha most of the ops out here are good but my personal preference is ethier; Big Island Divers 808-329-6068, or Honu Sports 808-327-3483 but they might not have a discover program. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas. Aloha

Jack's Diving Locker has a great facility with a pool. They do a "get accquainted" pool session for something like $20 and definitely have a Discover Scuba type thing they do. They really are very friendly and will make beginners feel comfortable. It's usually not an overly experienced crowd on at least one boat, so they go at a fairly newbie pace.

I doubt you can go wrong on Kona. Aloha! :)

Jack's also does a Discover Scuba shore dive. I always liked Kona Coast Divers, which if I'm not mistaken was bought by Jack's.

My wife and I recently obtained our certifications from Jeff Jones at Big Island Divers in Kona. Highly recommended--we had a great time!

I dove with Jack's Diving Locker and would do it again in a second. They were a great operator, first class operation, and really let you "be on vacation". I would give them a ring.

Thanks for all the feedback. This should be plenty of info for him to make a decision on who to use.
