Yes

One "Clean the Bay Day", I dove the Chesapeake Bay just to seaward of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Everything I found was occupied by critters of some sort, so I left it all.

I do beach cleanups since then.

we do them regularly here, it is amazing you many soda cans can fall off a bridge and end up in a mangrove area.

It gives you a great warm fuzzy feeling even though you generally know that the next tide will bring back more marine debris.

I think the greatest effect is not on how much garbage is in the ocean, but rather how much will go in the ocean in the future.

I like them and we should do more.

Yes-ish.

I volunteered to clean the dolphin pool at the local aquarium. It did not help fishdom in general, but at least it made their living space a bit cosier.

The extra bonus I didn't really expect was the lovely bleached look to my BC and wetsuit :)

My buddy and I also keep a lookout for litter on the reef and are constantly removing large balls of fishing line (monofilament), tackle, lures... In a Marine Protected Area. Hmmph. Any other crud also gets taken topside.

I would not hesitate to take part in a reef cleaning exercise if I had the opportunity. I love diving and it would be great to give something back to the ocean for the great experiences it has given me.

Cheers,

Andrew

There's a dive shop who sponsors a club and also runs the diving oporation at a local quarry (which is park district BTW). They get the club to do a clean up which they get project aware (or whatever) credit for. The park charges you to get in the park and the shop charges you to dive.

I figure one of the two groups that are getting paid should have the garbage picked up before you get there. LOL

I haven't participated in a coordinated effort to date. I always pick up trash in what ever location I'm diving anyway. Can't stand trash on the highway or in the ocean.

Never been able to do it, but then I haven't ben diving long enough to come across an organized clean-up.

No, but i would like to. Would have this last weekend if i didnt have blocked sinuses - reason not to dive and be miserable whilst dry :mad1: There is always next year ;)

yes, i had clean 5dolars bill 1dolarbill, 50pesos, coins, ect.. from the bottom of the ocean.

I guess is part of the hard job.
