One shop in Coz asked for my highest rating and for whatever reasion figured I was an instructor the minute I walked into the store(I was an AI at the time). Also the deepest I had gone.I just said below 180.

Another operator in Coz actually took and kept a card while we rented tanks and weights for a night shore dive.

All asked for the eanx card until they knew us.

I have only been on one dive where the operator did not ask to see a C-card. It was the dive from hell. Him not asking for a C card from any of the divers was a good indication of how careless and unprofessional he was. We had several incidents on the boat, including being put on the wrong wreck and injuries to some of the divers that required a trip to the local hospital upon our return to land.

I now dive with only a few good outfits, and all of them ask for my C card, no matter how many times they see my face. And I am glad.

I even got carded on my first day at work as an instructor here in Cayman. No C-Card = no dive; even for the new staff.

Our policy is to require a c-card, and to ask when your last dive was. 0-6 months since last dive is clear to dive any of our dives. 6-24 months and we require a shallow profile dive first. 2-10 years and we require a pool refresher followed by a shallow dive. More than 10 years since last dive and we will require complete recertification in order to dive with us.

I get asked for my c-card. The only place that never asked was the Bahamas. I pulled it out on one of the islands and, to my surprise, the shop owner said "Oh, I don't need that". Everywhere else I've gone, not only am I asked for the card, but where and when my last dive was. If you couldn't produce your card, they wouldn't let you dive (Good policy IMO). I have yet to be asked for my log book, though.

I was asked to show cards on all but one of the charters I've been on. I don't know about the M/V Fling requiring AOW for Flower Garden dives though... I had one, but my buddy was just OW certified.

Now that I think of it though... I've often been asked for a C-Card, but never for a specific one. Maybe it's because the one I pull out is sufficient.

on charters or even at the shops I've been in.

Now that makes sense for the one who trained me, but I've filled at the others, and not been asked THERE either - not once - for either air or Nitrox.

(Not that I'll need to show one again for a fill!)

I have always been asked for my nitrox card, and have been on dives where the DM says it would be 'preferable' that people partaking have AOW or more.
Only once have I been *required* to have AOW, that was in Cayman Brac on a deep drift dive.

well to be honest sometimes!!! was asked this past trip only place I had to show card was at paradise springs in fla , and on one nitrox air fill !!!

All of the operators in the Florida Keys that I use have asked to see my c-card. Especially if the trip includes what they call advanced dives. One operator in Florida will accept logged deep dives in place of an Advanced c-card.

At the local LDS in Southern California it is a mixed bag.
