Could happen w/any computer, she got lucky! You have to kind of wonder what kind of person would do what she did... I had mine figured out in about 30 minutes (helps when you actually enjoy figuring electronics out).

Anyhow... I found it to be very easy to learn and easy to use, but like ChillyWill said, play with the computer a bit before diving.
