I have yet to take any pics under water. I already have a canon s50 digital camera, and am now wondering if its worth while buying the case for it. After reading these posts I'm not sure what to do.

Do it !!! You don't need an overly enlarged "So I could actentuate the grain" 20 X30 print from a 35mm cam. Anything you can get is priceless to capture the moment !

Well, since you have the camera and uses it on land, do you like the result that you get? What are you planning to do with your pictures? Do you just want snapshots for your photo album or do you plan to make a large print and frame your photo on the wall?
While film vs digital is one aspect of photography, there are so many other factors and variables. Putting a random film camera in one's hand does not automatically make you a good photographer. Many people are willing ot sacrifice certain benefits of film for other advantages that digital offer.
If you are happy with the S50's result on land right now, might as well just use it until you get a bit more experience with underwater photography then if you find it is inadequate, you can always upgrade. Housing for S50 is not all that expensive so it is not as if you will have to invest heavily.

The WP-DC300 case can be purchased for under 200 bucks easy. I got mine for like $170 last month. It's only good for around 30m depth however.

Strobes tend to cost a bleeding fortune. You should probably start off playing with the camera's flash first, and when you decide to get "fancy", then look at purchasing a strobe. In my case I got the S50 'cuz it's compact and I can stick it in my BCD during dives and do other stuff... a huge honking strobe would negate that.

I have a UK light cannon and have thought about mounting it to the camera for night dives. There are a few threads floating around here touting this light as the "poor man's strobe" or something to that effect.

We also have an S50 and the u/w housing works very well. Add a Sea&Sea YS25 or 90 strobe and you're in business. Sea&Sea makes an adapter kit that uses a fiber optic cable to trigger the strobe with the camera's built in flash. You can check our some of our results here. The photos from Cozumel were taken with the S50. Most of the other u/w ones were taken with our MX-10 (which we're getting ready to sell if anyone's interested. We have the entire outfit).

Let's get wet! :palmtree:

Do you know which of these pics used the strobe setup? A lot of them look like just the internal flash was used, or no flash at all.

I found the case today, and Bought it.. Can't wait to get in the water and try it. Someone told me that you should keep the display screen off to prevent moisture. Is this True?

I've never heard that one before. What, does the display produce water?! You can stick a moisture muncher in the case in any event (that's what I do). I think a pack of ten or so "sticks" costs anywhere from 6-12 bucks. When they change colour discard them. The reusable types (the baggie ones) aren't meant to be used in cameras except for storage.

You should keep the display screen off to conserve battery life. Nothing sucks up power like a color LCD.
