After reading this thread last Friday, I went to the local Halcyon dealer on the weekend and brought my Faber 10l steel cylinders with me. Lo and behold, my cylinders were too small for the Eclipse. I was ready to purchase the Eclipse there and then but after putting my cylinders on and gearing up, my head was hitting the first stage if I looked up. It seems that I may need to sell my tanks and get the 12.2l(100Cf) Fabers instead so that I can use the Eclipse. It would have been nice if they added another slot on the STA so that I can at least move the cambands a bit.

The issue here is the weight, I'm a small guy(5'5) and the advice from my LDS was that the 12.2l's would be too big for me and they can see no reason why I would need that big a tank. Although height wise, I think the Faber 12.2's are comparable in height AL tanks that are mostly for hire, am not too sure about the weight though..please correct me if I'm wrong.

I use an Eclipse #40 wing with a short steel 80, the size of an aluminum 63 and it works just fine. Your issues sound like lack of experience more so than anything else.

All I can say is, the stainless steel inflator is a real hassle to maintain. Im about to change mine to the regular plastic inflator.

Lack in experience in setting up a tank? You're kidding right?

All equipment can satisfy all customers who have a different preference and body condition. You had better try Tobin's BP/W or Fred T's BP.

I am wondering if Fred T is back to the business. If not, I hope we will be back soon.

Fred's still in business. I just ordered a 9 lb bp and 5 lb STA from him. Can't wait to get them! Sounds like he's still in the process of rebuilding because most of his stock is unfinished BP's and STA's but I think he had some finished plates. Drop him an e-mail at the address below, and he'll let you know what he has.

Hi GW
I'm not sure what will stick, but I'll just throw out some observations for you to sort through. First, I use a variety of tanks with my singles wing, 10L, 12l and 14L steel as well as AL 80. On all of these tanks, I line up my tank valve at the same height. So in this respect, the tank height should not matter.

However, with 10L steel tanks, I do have a slight issue with the bottom band of my light STA, which has to go over the lip of the tank bottom cap. My heavy STA has closer holes for the straps, so this is not an issue.

Halcyon has a nice new STA I have not seen yet, you can remove the weight, so it is a heavy/light convertible. I don't know how close the STA straps are.

Fred T makes two piece STAs that avoid this issue I described as well.

I love my eclipse but had some good help getting the harness webbing adjusted correctly...then I dove it awhile and adjusted some more. Eventually you get it perfect. I love it for the unencumbered feel in the water. yes, I have had trouble with the stainless inflator. I wear a weight belt with four pounds under the crotch strap.
Mt tank stage height is totally deoendent on where I place the tank.

My only real complaint about comfort is that I am not sure it would be my choice on shore dives since most of ours here involve a bit of a hike. The webbing cuts off the blood supply in my shoulders if I am walking around in it too long.

I do mostly boat dives, so not an issue much.

Are you walking around in a t-shirt or your wetsuit? It is the one time padding is nice to have.

Thanks Jim. I just contacted another Halcyon user and he advised me what you've just said. That he usually just threads the bottom band over the lip of the tank boot. Another thing I could probably try is cutting the boot a bit to accomodate the botttom band. Looks like I'm going to end up not selling my cylinders after all. Thanks dude.
