I think GPS is an excellent idea that will sooner or later become standard in all cameras. Geolocation is increasingly popular, just look at all the map services, i.e. google.
Last years google developer day, the google maps lead geographer told me there is a scientific estimation by google (no, sorry I don't have a reference to published data), that about 70% of the worlds data can be pinpointed geographically, hence the popularity of GPS.
Just think of being able to add maps to your shots, it's attractive, i.e i would love to know where the reefs are that I'm shooting at.
On that front google ocean has just launced!
