Has anyone tried the new 7070 camera underwater? I'm looking to buy a camera for both underwater and on land. Also is it worth it to buy an Ikelite housing if I'm just a novice freediver-snorkeler.
Thanks for any input

I too am curious about this new model. It appears to be pretty much the same as the C5060 but with a higher resolution CCD. It even fits in the same Ikelite housing as the C5060 with very minor modification(woohoo)! I did notice it seemed to have a slightly different TTL White Balance and higher aperature(F11), otherwise it looks like it's pretty much the same camera.

Yeah, I dunno, seems like I've been in a vacume here.. just noticed the 7070... (did a search on this board and found threads back in Jan 23 or so... Guess I thought it was just another combo of an existing one..

Anyhoo... it looks kewl...
I think this would be my camera of choice when my 2 4040s(gawd forbid) get wasted...

It appears smaller than the 8080, but with all then new mods of the family's 5050/5060 etc... so unless there comes a thread down the line that is negative, I'd get the 7070 assuming it's the "New 5050" upgraded camera.

Meanwhile, back at the old 4040.. heheh... as stated around here, it's easy to use and I know what "some" of the buttons do... and can use the buttons... the PT015 housing I can't, so switching to Ikilite... but now that the 7070 is out, might just bypass the 5050 upgrade and do a 7070 w/Ikelite.

Ok so enough rambling here... I'm interested in the 7070 reviews too...
Always something to spend the money on...

My wife just purchased the 7070 with Ikelite housing and DS-125 strobe. It will be a few weeks until she gets a chance to use it Turks & Caicos. She'll probably give it a couple tryouts in the pool/quarry before we go.

Before making a suggestion on the Ikelite housing I'd ask if you have any future plans of scuba or what depths you plan on freediving with it. Also if you had plans of adding a strobe and considered taking advantage of the Ikelite TTL.

One item to note, according to others on this board, the 7070 WILL NOT turn on the flash in Super Macro mode. This is a problem if you want to use the camera without an external strobe or need to fire the strobe optically. I also find that I prefer to use internal and external strobe on some macro shots. From what I understand the 5060 and 8080 don't have this problem. The 5050 does not have this problem for sure. I don't have personal knowledge of this but the post earlier on the subject appeared to be reliable. It's something to check into before making your decision. It would be a deal breaker for me.

Interesting, I, in my wanderings through my new 5050, notice that too. The flash didn't work in S-Macro mode..

I'm sure there's a posting around here on how to make it happen, just haven't looked for it yet.. not quite at that need... heheh... Yet anyway..

But interesting that it wouldn't work then... always something eh?

You have to be in manual mode (or A-seems like that works also) and set the flash to slave before it will work on the 5050. None of the preset modes will allow you to use the flash while in Super Macro. I always use manual anyway. It actually works pretty well on the 5050 as you can set the level of the strobe from 1 to 10. If you have it blocked out and are using it to trigger an external strobe ,setting it to 1 saves batteries and the various levels give you quite a bit of exposure control if you are using the internal strobe. Someone posted the entire procedure step by step a short while ago.

Internal flash will fire while in M(not sure about A - don't use it) mode via slave on the C5060 as well.

Great, Thanx Herman, will give it a try.. and the ability to set power 1-10 will be helpful so as not to have "Fried Fish" 4" away from the camera... will give it a try this weekend...

thanx for saving me the look up.. helps a lot..

I just double checked, the C5050 will fire the strobe in slave operation in both A and M modes while in Super Macro. I suspect the 5060 will also.
