Has anyone successfully obtained college credit for PADI courses?

Thank you for all the responses. Still haven’t found a single school willing to grant credit. I asked PADI for the name of a school that would do it and they said they didn’t have that information but to ask ACE. So I emailed them and they said they didn’t have that information either and referred me to an “unofficial” website of schools that might take ACE credit. I emailed all the ones in California and of the three that have responded so far they have all said no. Still waiting to hear from the rest.

This “college credit” thing almost seems like a scam. What good is the credit if no one will accept it toward a degree?

My son received high school pe credit for his open water course. We homeschooled through a public school in Alaska for the Diploma. He did not apply to college yet so I have no help there.

That’s great! Any chance you could share some more information on how you accomplished this? We emailed his principal and he asked for the name of a college in California that would actually grant the credit so we’re stuck on this step for now.

Back in 94 I got college credit for my aow class but it was through the school. Was actually really nice program. Only cost was for the check dives. They provided all equipment except mask snorkel and fins

Heard back from a half dozen colleges today and they all said no. Still haven’t found a single college willing to say they will give credit for the PADI classes.

Santa Barbara City College is home to one of the few non-private commercial dive training programs in the US. As a California community college, their credits transfer pretty easily. Although, like most colleges they are a NAUI shop (cause NAUI loves teaching theory and making you memorize equations). But they are your most likely chance of finding someplace with an equivalent course that’s not a for-profit college.

The State of Texas used to require at least one PE credit in order to graduate from a state related educational institution. A number of years ago, the State dissolved that requirement much to the disappointment of many local diveshops.

In the university where I work, there used to be a course called PEB 1119 which was one credit. The administration eventually removed it.

However, I believe Texas A&M in Galveston still offers credit under their KINE 199 program. You may want to contact them to see how that works.

TAMG offers an OW class, Scientific diver class, and cave class, all for credit.

The Scientific Diver class instructor is here on SB, and the recreational dive instructor is a very good friend and former crewmember of the Spree.
