Does anyone know if they are can be removed safely?

It looks pretty easy, but I am wondering about the empty holes left by removing the screws.

Mike.

Has anybody received their FIX S95 housing yet?

I would imagine the rails are easy to remove. Removing the screws would present the holes in the back window, which are already there anyway. No additional risk of flooding.

Mine will be here next week. I'll take a look then.

I received mine yesterday.

They look easy to remove. I am being overly cautious.

I contacted Backscatter, whom I bought the housing from. Their response:

"I do not have a new housing here so I can not tell you for sure that you can remove the rails. You should be able to see if the screws go through the back plate. If they do not then I would say yes but do not hold be to this. "

The screws don't seem to go through but, I was looking for confirmation.

By the way, the housing looks and feels amazing. I bought the FIX uwl-04 M52/67 lens. It connects without an adapter and fits great.

Yes, you can remove the rails.

I actually use mine with the intended view finder but yes, you can remove the rails. A note of caution, since it is winter, be sure the housing is nice and warm, 70 plus degrees just in case, we don't want the Plexi to be cold and brittle.

Hey Nemrod,

How did the hood attach to the FIX 90 ? Did you have to install the rails yourself? Were the screw holes predrilled?

Thanks.

Mike.

The FIX90 has similar rails. The hood just slides/snaps onto them. Yes, I have removed the rails on mine only to reinstall them so I could use the hood. Shallow, bright conditions like at Stingray City warrant a hood, for example.

The rails on the FIX90 were factory installed. The holes on the FIX/Recsea and the new FIX95 do not go all the way through. You can remove them. Of course, you should open the back door and with your fingers feel for penetration, you should not and WILL NOT feel any. As I said, the attaching screws do not go full depth and the area of the tiny screw hole is so small that pressure rating of the housing will not be compromised, the screws were not water proofed anyways, so essentially nothing has changed except the rails are out of your way when you remove them.

Good luck,
James
