I know this is a little outside of the Tampa Bay Area, but it sounds like a good dive. I would like to hear a little about the dive site.

I've never heard of Naples Spring and no, Naples is not a little outside of the Tampa Bay Area, it's way outside.

If you click on the link provided by deepstops, and then the "system map". The sheet is labeled "Naples Spring".

I have never heard of it before or dove it. I do know these holes are not that uncommon in the gulf. I have heard of another "Amberjack hole", but have not dove that either.

I am pretty sure we are talking about the same place. It's about 70' to the sand, and about 220 or so to the bottom.

I dived that one February 10, 1988, I have it logged as "Blue Hole." My max depth was 152 ft. The hole was full of fish, lots of snapper and grouper. You really need a light; the sides are not nearly as smooth as they appear on the diagram. There are lots of holes all over the sides. When I get home I can look in my log to see if I recorded any additional information.

Thanx for the help. I plan to check it out one of these days. Need to wait till the weather cooperates a little bit.

Anyway I will be sure to send you a link to pics and video if I go.

Also I have 4 sets of numbers including the 1 from the link at the top of this thread. The one listed there is about 0.4 miles from the rest of the numbers. The other 3 are pretty close together. Do you have known good numbers for this site?

I don't have numbers for them. When I dived it, there was no GPS, folks found it with LORAN, dropping a jug on the numbers, the spiraling out looking at the depth finder, then dropping another jug. LORAN's numbers were different from GPS.

There is another, similar hole farther north, 28 miles off Redfish Pass (between Captiva and Upper Captiva) that drops from about 80 ft - 170 ft.

Lee County has published a list of artifical reefs that lie off out shores. Many of them are excellent dive sites.
