Hello all;

Here is a question for you guys GUE certified.

I am about to take GUE fundamentals with a set of doubles. Here is the problem, I have a very hard time reaching the right valve with my right hand (collar bone problem after motorbike accident) but I think I can get to the right post with my left hand.

Does GUE requires to be able to reach the valve with the right hand or if as long as all the valves can be reached with left hand it is OK.

Thanks.

AFAIK, you should be able to shut down and open post. I do not recall anything about right/left hand.....But check with your instructor

As long as you can shutdown the posts properly, it doesn't matter which hands you use. Just as long as you can turn them back on. ;)

If you can reach the right post with the left hand, while maintaining buoyancy and trim, I don't think your instructor will care. But, as someone who has fractured both collarbones, one of them twice (and had it surgically repaired) I find it interesting that you are flexible enough to reach the right post with the left hand, but can't do it with the right. I can get both of my posts okay (in the right suit) but the isolator with the right hand is a challenge.

Thank you guys for the feed back.

TsandM; I broke my right collarbone twice, the second time in two different places, so after my motorbike accident I decided to do something safer like lion wrestling, snake kissing or ofcourse tech diving...:)

hehe Before my wife and I got married, I told her I wanted to get a motorcycle. She said no. I said I was going to dive, she said no. So I told her I'm going to do one and she can decide. She said, well... you see where I am. ;)

Michael

EDIT: I agree with what she decided, I am "more in control" in diving than what I would be waiting for a car to take me out on a bike.

Also check "how " you are reaching for your valves... are you "saluting" or "combing your hair back".... makes a big difference

In other words, elbow in or out?? Just learning here.
