Does anyone know of any places up near Harbor Beach or along the thumb to get a shore dive in? I'm not looking for anything special, just a place to get wet. The viz on the inland lakes is rapidly goint to ****, and we don't really feel like a brail dive in otter lake.

Also, Wolves64T and I went for a dive in Round Lake in Charlevoix today looking for the Elizabeth II. We didn't find it using the coordinates we got from the LDS in Traverse City.

If you zoom the map in all the way we searched the area North and East of the "Fry" along the dotted line. Anyone dive the ship who could help us home in on her? Thanks.

Dove Grindstone city at the top of the thumb last year great vis great diving OH WAIT that was a dream I had. roumer has it you have to get a charter boat or have one of your own to go about all the way to canada to get any depth out of the top of the thumb any more. We shore dove and swam out for over a half an hour never got more then 6 foot deep so good look on that.

Kind of what we expected to hear. Bnscherm thought he had heard about a shore dive up there. Oh well maybe the winds will be from the south and we can dive the river.

The top of the Thumb has some wonderful wrecks. Mostly deep, but wonderful. & not all that far out. I believe the operators out of that area have changed a bit. I know Gary Venet / Rec & Tec takes his boat up there a few times each season. Who else? Andy Donato. I know there are more, just can't think of them right now.

Shore diving? I've heard there are places to dive on some sunken grindstones. Don't know anything beyond that.

Charlevoix / Elisabeth II - looking at the map you posted, I believe the Elisabeth II is South East of the ferry line. (If i said otherwise in a previoius post please don't hold it against me!) Now that I see the map, I have a better idea of how Round Lake lies. Was Scuba North able to give you visual directions to the wreck or only coordinates?

All we had were the coordinates if anybody has visual directions that would help a lot. Vis was pretty bad below 30 feet maybe five foot vis max so we easily could have missed it. Also if anybody has coordinates I would like to check ours against yours.

Found this on shore diving near Grindstone City. From the following website: www.ring.com/travel/divesite.htm

"Besides shipwrecks, divers visiting this area will enjoy caves created by eroded limestone. The caves are located near the edge of the reef near Port Austin Lighthouse.

Grindstones, which were used in manufacturing, can be found off Grindstone City where they were once manufactured. Discarded grindstones can be found off the Grindstone City pier and often attract schools of colorful gamefish.

Visitors to this area will enjoy the Lighthouse County Park Interpretive Center housed in the Pte. Aux Barque Lighthouse near Grindstone City. The center focuses on maritime history.

For information: Greater Port Austin Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 274, Port Austin, MI 48467. 517-738-7600"

Great museum btw! The bilge pump outside is quite interesting and different from most if not all that I've seen underwater.
