Going to have to disagree Bob. :) Marines are expected to grow up and lead faster. It all starts the moment you put your feet on those yellow foot prints.

Examples are Staff NCO's in the Marines start at E6 not E7 as with the Chief ratings. Also there is a much heavier emphasis on the NCO ranks as you'll see many more E4/E5 NCOIC's where in the Air Force an E4 can't be an NCOIC and in the Army an E4 is typically a Specialist and rarely a Corporal.

Just differences in what is expected.
