sorry i haven't heard anything about hampton beach. From my beaching experience there (used to live in portsmouth) it's all sand. Try just a smidge North of there in Rye. Though I've heard that the locals have been trying to oust surfer by making parking a problem.

also try www.scuba-newengland.com for dive sites all over new england

or you can try seabrook beach just south of Hampton Beach. Here's scuba-newengland's write up on Seabrook Beach: (shore dive)

A wonderful shore dive is found in Seabrook, NH from Seabrook Beach. A little unknown sand shelf offers the perfect lobster viewing.

There are no known hazards/dangers. The Maximum depth or range of water depth in the dive site area - 40 ft at High Tide.

This site is good for - Beginners, Intermediates, Lobster diving (remember you can't keep them!), Scuba Classes

Driving Directions - Go to Seabrook Beach to traffic light 1/2 mile south of Hampton Bridge. Head east at light towards beach. Dive straight out from access to beach, approx. 100 yards off beach in 40 ft water.

remember to leave the bug for the trappers...cheers!!

you can go visit don stephens at atlantic aqua dive shop located in rye beach and he will give you all the dive sites. knows qhat he is talking about since he is a ex-navy seal and he won't steer you wrong. you can also go to atlanticaquasports.com for his web site

I was at Don's shop this morning and told him I was suprised to hear he is an ex Navy SeAL. As I suspected, he was not.

So, Don may be many things but ex-SeAL "aint" one of them.

Be that as it may, he's a straight shooter and his shop is well worth visiting.

But I am sure he got on hell of a kick out of that one.
