Does anyone knows when is the best time to see hammerheads in Gordo Banks? I have read conflicting reports where people say its the winter and others say the summer...

I will be in the area for the last 2 weeks of july. Is it a good time?

Thank you

july is still a bit early, unfortunately, the better times are september to december. july is good for cabo pulmo, and the local diving here in cabo. we tried gordo last week, but had to turn around with the currents and wind. when the water gets consistently warmer, then the water conditions are better. the thermocline is slowly dropping, and the fish are everywhere now. the good season is upon us!

Hey jfbellemare, July is just a bit early. The winter conditions are still here. It is warming up a little this week and the is getting real good.
I think you will have a great Dive here on the top of the walls along the Submarine canyons. We have 800 species of tropical marine life and we have been seeing Some White Tip reef Sharks.
If you need any Info About the Tours or anything about cabo PM me.
Thanks Dee

Hello, there, writing from one of the shops around. Hammerheads usually start to arrive at this time of year in small groups. Depends on the logystics dictated by the shop you are diving with and the weather conditions itself. Basically we have here at the region two great spots to look for hammerhead sharks. One spot in cabo call Gordo Banks, and another one on La Paz area called El Bajo.

Diving the two spots have some advantages or disadvantages, but for instance if you were going this time of the year to Gordo Banks and the weather gets rough and windy the chances to have a good day diminishes for sure, while if happens the same on the Espiritu Santo island at El Bajo , you always have the chance to save the diving day by going to the Sea Lion colny or some of the shipwrecks. Anyway if you are pretty lucky and find hammerheads, usually is off the Central Sea Mount at El Bajo, and certainly it is the time of the year the whale sharks start to arrive to the area.

Let me know if I can be on further assistance.
Best Regards
