Everyone who uses the board and lives in or visits Indonesia frequently raves about Raja Ampat. Despite the difficulties of getting there, there or more liveaboards doing Raja Ampat than anywhere else in Indonesia. You would struggle to find a published list of the best diving in the world that did not include R4 in the top ten...maybe even the top five.

Halmahera is rarely if ever mentioned here and is hardly an undiscovered secret. That does not mean the diving isn't amazing- it is. All the diving in that part of the world is. However, Raja Ampat is special and on another level.

Raja Ampat was hardly mentioned 25 years ago when I was guiding groups there. This did not mean that the diving was not amazing already. Halmahera has execellent dive spots. Personally I think that diving around the Island of Rao near Morotai easily can compete with the best places of Raja Ampat. Same is true for many other places around Halmahera. Keep in mind that the K shaped island measures 400 kilometers from North to South. Several thousands of kilometers of coastline. If offers about any type of tropical diving you can imagine. Unfortunately our Weda Resort is still closed at the moment. Depending on how the nearby industrial zone developed we might decide not to open again. Our Magic Bay Rao we will open again after this pandemic.
