I have a dive rite ss backplate with a trek wing, but wondering if the halcyon mc pouch that fits behind the diver on the backplate is a good idea? Would it even fit on my backplate?

Anyone even have the pouch?

I have the pouch and like it. Mine is on an H plate. If it does not line up with the DR holes, you can drill your own.

I've got one, too. I keep and SMB in there, and its nice and out of the way until needed. Definetly beats putting it in a pocket, in my opinion.

I have a MC pouch. I know that it will fit a FredT plate and a DSS plate but I don't know about the Diverite.

I'm not sure that they're worth having. A lot of SMBs won't fit inside the pouch... and you still have the spool to deal with. If you have a pocket, then that's the way to go.

The Halcyon probably will not fit the Dive Rte plate, but you can always jury-rig something. I used one of those pads - a de-stickered OMS pad on my Abyss backplate.
You know, the plate itself is pretty comfortable as is, plus it was a royal pain pulling my DSMB out from under it.
I went back to my Dive Rite sleeve and ditched the pad. I do use Tobin's delrin starwheels to hold my tanks to the plate - I got gnawed a couple of times by the wing nuts diving without a wetsuit.
Nice big thigh pockets are the best thing for these things, although the new version of the Dive Rite pouch is better than the old one I have to deal with. It keeps it stored, but you can get it out without jumping through a bunch of flaming hoops. I keep my spool clipped off back there. You gotta practice with whatever you rig though, so when you do it for real, it works AND you look cool doing it.
Hey Stephen Ash, for a guy in a landlocked state chock FULL of galoots in bigarsed cowboy hats with rifles in the the windows of their pickup trucks who talk real s l o w, you have some good gouge on this stuff.
You must be in the Witness Protection Program or some arcane form of desert exile, but don't worry - I'll never tell...

Very funny, Tom!

Actually, I might have mis-spoke. The pad does help prevent accidental "hole-ings". You're right about Tobin's starwheels... they're great. But if you don't use those... and you don't have a pad (or pouch) in place... be very careful slinging off your rig while still standing. I once put a nasty scrape in my drysuit doing that. While I haven't had great luck comfortably stowing my marker bags inside one, they are pretty good drysuit insurance.

If you don't have a pocket then you're stuck clipping the spool to a D-ring. Wierd thing, though... they have a strange way of de-spooling when you least expect it... even when you take your time and wrap 'em tight and clip 'em right. Go figure!

Gotta go water them horses now.

Sorry Tom,

I should have added, I picked up most of this stuff from listening to guys like you. Then I went out and bought it, dived it, and loved it! Just spreading the word. Thanks
