Hello:

After a close examination of my Aqualung Maverick BC's inflator I realized it is a cheap peice of equipment. I am toying with the idea of replacing it with the halcyon inflator w/ tube. I love the Maverick because I'm not a tech diver and love how it floats me on the surface. Can anyone tell me if BC dump threads at the shoulder are standard and if this replacement will work? Thank you.

Inflator mechanisms and dump hoses are a standard size for the most part. You will probably do better $ wise to go with an inflator and dump hose from Dive Rite or one of the other manufacturers. If you look for "Dive Rite Express" on the internet you can buy online.

thanks, I'll check them out.
The halcyon's stainless steel looks rugged.

I think the Halcyon inflator might be worth more than your bc...

Ok, that was a joke... On a serious note, anything other than the inflator on that BC would be an improvement...

Dive Rite has a good one, as well as the Halcyon. Its all in how much do you want to spend???

I would agree with you on my BC. But I'm happy with it.
I'm not buying a Halcyon system because I need the balls to use it properly. There is a halcyon inflator currently on ebay.

I just messed with the new Halcyon Inflator last night and it is very cool. The big selling point is that it offers "precision control" and the buttons are Stainless. By precision control, they mean that the amount you press the button is proportional to the air being put in the BC. Most are more on/off than that. I ordered one to put on my Dive Rite Wings. I'll let you know the verdict after I have used it several times.

PLEASE READ THIS REGARDING HALCYON INFLATORS!!!

Halcyon has had a number of different inflators throughout the years... the joke is that with every shipment of Halcyon BCs, they decide to use a different inflator!

The new ones with the Stainless Steel buttons are MADE by Halcyon. These are the new 2004 line. Everything prior to these are NOT manufactured by Halcyon.

I have the 2003 inflator... it's just a generic Trident inflator... nothing special about it at all... that's supposedly an advantage... it's easy to replace.

I'm still debating whether or not to get the new inflator... time will tell! ;)

My LDS has them for about $90.

A quick Google search found them for considerably less, $48, but I don't even have an order confirmation yet and we all know how Halcyon is with their pricing.

I couldn't find a price on any of the official Halcyon sites, but the fact that they sell a crotch strap for $32 leads me to believe the higher price is the recommended retail price. Scubapro sells their inflator for $80 so one could argue that although it is still a lot of money, it isn't just Halcyon who has a ridiculously priced inflator .

I saw the halcyon inflator sell for over $100 on ebay without the hose yesterday... I do think others should make higher quality inflators... IMHO they are critical...
