I haven't found a discussion on this, but if it's out there, please point me to it.

I've done about 40 dives on my Halcyon BP/Wing doubles setup now and am getting comfortable in the rig.

I'm a little frustrated by the angle of the LP/oral inflator mouthpiece. I'm trying to understand why they put a mouthpiece on that points *away* from my face. It can be challenging to get that guy in my mouth, especially when simulating a bc failure / swimming the rig up and then trying to orally inflate. Now if my buddy was trying to orally inflate me it would be perfect. ;)

Can someone please explain the rational?

Is there a suggested replacement oral inflator mouthpiece? I have a spare Zeagle mouthpiece but wanted to hold off on making any changes until I got some feedback (plus I just know I'm going to get some ribbing about that big Z emblem being on my Halcyon rig  ).

I posted this to another board:

I don't think the BBOD are problematic, we just don't know what to call the "parade of inflators" coming out of Halcyon..

Right now we have the following (I think)..

OBOD - Orange Buttons of Death - the oldest style that I know of. The buttons are orangish red and the inflate button faces out (on the opposite side of the oral inflation mouthpiece).

BBOD - Black Buttons of Death - just like the OBOD, but with black buttons.

DIOL - Diagonal Inflator of Life - Inflate button is on the inside with the oral inflation mouthpiece pointing up at an angle between the deflate and inflate buttons.

Or get a trident or whatever... Also, some people turn them around so they face the other way. I personally perfer the DIOL, but they were problematic (leaking and such) so Halcyon has develoed a new SS inflator that will come out...oh, whenever :D

Notice it follows the DIOL design as to mouthpiece placement..

Thanks for the lightening fast replies there O-Ring :)

It sounds like I'm not the only person with this question at least.

I like the shaping of the inflator in the pic you posted, but could do without the stainless right near where my lips are going to be (it snows where we dive).

I'll keep my eyes out for the DIOL.

I know the DIOL is around and available from Halcyon and prob. other places as well. It looks exactly like the new one, but is all black plastic.

You mentioned that the DIOL had "leak problems" - do you know if that was a 1 out of every x inflators leaked vs. all inflators leaking a little bit?

Atticus once bubbled...

I have two DIOLs and one OBOD :D and none of them leak..

Halcyon is not the only place that makes DIOLs...I have an IST on my Stab jacket...

As with any piece of gear, you have to maintain it....that will prevent 90% of your gear problems...if not more.
